book-by-book
This section focuses on Tenel Ka and what happens with her, book by book. When she's only present for a couple chapters, I'll go ahead and mention the chapters. But when she pops up a lot in one book, I'll just describe her main role. :D Pleeease contact me and let me know if I missed anything, or if you can fill in any of the blanks. Thank you!
Young Jedi Knights series
Tenel Ka played a prominent role in the fourteen book series, with all the books focusing on the Solo twins and their friends' adventures - Tenel Ka was just lucky enough to be one of those friends. It was in this series we were introduced to her (in the first book Heirs of the Force) and we watch as her and Jacen Solo grow closer with each book that passes. This was where we got most of her character background, including how she loses her arm and how her friends learn she's a magical, pretty, pretty princess.
New Jedi Order series
Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial -- Tenel Ka appeared in chapter 20 of this book and has a total of two spoken words! Woo! Her big line was: "I, too." She agrees with something and that's about all we get of her in the first AoC book.
Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse -- Tenel Ka had a few lines in this book and you get to see some good interaction of her in her Hapan settings, with Ta'a Chume, Isolder and her mother, Teneniel Djo. She's mentioned in a few places in the book, but actually appears in Chapters 8 & 11.
Star by Star -- A member of the 17-manned Jedi Strike Team sent to Myrkr, Tenel Ka is actually featured quite a bit in this book. Many of the instances show her as Jacen Solo's physical and emotional anchor, and they even share a few cute moments together. When Jacen is about to run off by himself to go after the voxyn queen, Tenel Ka leans in to kiss the silly boy and Corellian Fried Vergere decides to jack the moment up and herd the boy off, much to Tenel Ka's... well, Tenel Ka's emotionless expression (you know she wanted to tear the beak off that ball of feathers).
Dark Journey -- Hapes is the planet where most of this book takes place, so of course the lovely copper-headed glamazon makes many appearances in this one. Near the start of the book, when the remnants of the Jedi Strike Team are returning to civilization, they end up going to Hapes. Tenel Ka is sent planetside and on the way she feels Jacen's presence in her head sort of explode, causing her to go berserk. Jaina makes note of this and links it to the obvious dense way her twin brother has with the womenfolk. Tenel Ka meets a hearty band of pretty nasty pirate men as she lands and exits the Yuuzhan Vong craft, only to proceed to hand all their asses to them within seconds. Later we see that this is actually the book where she becomes the Queen Mother of Hapes, after her mother's sad death and after her granny's lame attempts at making Jaina and Isolder get together. Tenel Ka realizes she has to take up the crown unless she wants the Hapes cluster to go to hell in a handbasket, so she takes up the duty herself. Like a boss.
Enemy Lines I: Rebel Dream -- Tenel Ka only gets a mention in this one. Luke says they should offer their support to Hapes when the Vong are clustering around the Consortium, and it is mentioned that Tenel Ka is now their Queen Mother.
Traitor -- Tenel Ka is only mentioned in this book. Jacen is mentally going through names of people that Mean Something to him and Tenel Ka is one of the ones on the this list.
Destiny's Way -- The first book she is referred to as 'Tenel' in, much to the collective "wtf" of most fans. She is seen in this book a fairly good amount for a side character -- and she's seen at a certain part wearing a sky blue Admiral's uniform playing chit-chat with Jaina Solo, post-mega super JEDI KNIGHTING CEREMONY. (Haven't they all been knighted a few times now...? XD) She seems a bit off in this book, and I think it's a weird clone of her. Let's call her Tenel Kaa. :B
Force Heretic I: Remnant -- Tenel Ka is only mentioned in this book, when Luke is thinking of all the Jedi missing from a meeting he has called, TK is one of the names on the list. She's probably busy slapping Hapan suitors upside the head.
The Unifying Force -- There are a good number of mentions of Tenel Ka and Hapan fleets in this book, as it is the big final battle and all. I have to go back through this one and see if she has any actual lines. Reread time!
Dark Nest trilogy
The Joiner King -- Appearing in only one chapter (Chapter 23, in this books case) in each book of this series, Tenel Ka actually plays a big role. The first book shows Jacen Solo heading over to Hapes to ask for help in the form of a Hapan fleet. They seem fairly pleased to see each other when he arrives, much to the dismay of the suitors that are always swarming around her. In short, they end up spending the night together. It was argued heavily on message boards and such what went on between them that night, but it was all put to rest by the next book.
The Unseen Queen -- The one chapter (Chapter 4) Tenel Ka appears in the second book of the series is near the start, with Jacen and Ben Skywalker visiting Hapes. They haven't seen each other in about a year and it is at this point when Jacen finds out Tenel Ka has a daughter, Allana (not named until the third book -- also noted in many places; Allaya + Anakin = Allana) -- he notices the girl is his daughter once he makes eye contact with her. The three share a cute little moment which is interrupted by an assassination attempt on the baby (already!). Jacen, later in the book, fries Ta'a Chume's mind... something he most likely didn't let Tenel Ka know he was doing. Aww, sorry grammy Ta'a - Jacen doesn't want you sending birthday cards with pennies in them and knitted sweaters to his baby. Sorry, bro.
The Swarm War -- Tenel Ka is seen away from Hapes in the one chapter (Chapter 2) in this book. She's planetside on Ossus with all the other Jedi for a meeting with Luke Skywalker. Afterwards, she goes to speak to him in private (and shares a classic moment with Han and Leia regarding Allana) and resigns from the Jedi Order, preparing to hand her lightsaber to Luke. He tells her to keep it and that she always has a place in the Order. That's all we see of her in that series. That chapter also holds a classic moment between Han, Leia and Jacen about Allana -- with Jacen playing super-dumb. It's pretty magical.
Legacy of the Force series
Bloodlines -- The mentions we get of TK in here are the many times Jacen thinks of her and Allana -- and subsequently hides his thoughts of them from Lumiya. And also at the end, where Lumiya says he has to kill the thing he loves to become a Sith... which would be Tenel Ka and Allana, in his words. O_O Crazy kid.
Tempest -- Tenel Ka plays a fairly large part in this novel (she is on the cover, after all XD) and it's lovely to see her back in action. An attempt is made on her life and Jacen comes to help find out who is behind it. It looks like his own parents are, but what he doesn't know is that they were trying to warn her about it. Come to find out, Han and Leia really like Tenel Ka ("For Tenel Ka, I'm up to anything." - Han!) and look upon her very highly. In this book, Luke and Mara also speculate that Jacen is the father of Allana, but then they sort of deem it "impossible" because of the long gestation period (something TK elongated with the Force to throw suspicion off of Jacen as the father). All in all, Tenel Ka and Jacen are on/around Hapes playing sleuth and being b'awww darling about it and she vaguely suspects something is up with him, going as far as telling herself that him shooting on his parents was a mistake. She loves him and it's finally getting to her. She's not a dumb girl though and will definitely take action on this later.
Sacrifice -- She is only mentioned a few times in the book before this, Exile, but she makes a small appearance in this one. Jacen goes to visit Hapes and we see a little bit of Tenel Ka and Allana. He gives a stuffed tauntaun to Allana and Tenel Ka walks him back to his ship. She is all regal and political about his sudden leap into politics and it's very cute. She also is very suspicious of him after Luke gets hurt and he doesn't bother to come around. In fact, she's suspicious of him through the whole damn book pretty much. She'll find out something soon and she won't be happy.
Inferno -- Remember what was said about her finding out something? Yeah. Jacen comes to ask for the Hapans help again, by way of her main fleet (this is all while Tenel Ka is in the middle of changing into her nightclothes, by the way) and she gives it to him -- as long as he'll make peace with Luke. Which he doesn't. Han and Leia end up on Hapes at the end of the book to reinforce what they know about him to her and she breaks down in a stopped lift with them and cries into Han's arms (awwwww). Then she promptly dries her eyes and turns her back on Jacen, much to his dismay.
Fury -- Haha, oh dear. So Jacen comes and kidnaps Allana, replacing her with an orphan and as you can probably guess, Tenel Ka is none to happy about it. Luke and the Jedi tell her they will definitely be helping out and get her back in the end. She fully realizes what Jacen has become in this book and has some good chats with her father, Isolder, as well as Luke Skywalker. The line about the "best defended bush in the galaxy" is the best thing ever. Heee.
Invincible -- Tenel Ka appears very briefly in this book. We're also introduced to a pair of twins that are part of her security force as well as her cousins (Trista & Taryn, both are awesome, by the way ;D). Caedus kills Isolder in this book, and then Jaina kills Caedus. His last thoughts were to Tenel Ka -- he was screaming at her through the Force to get Allana off of the Dragon Queen to save them both from a planned nanovirus attack (which is his Last Act and is an act of Jacen's, not Caedus'). Sadly, we don't get to see her reaction to what's happened with Jacen and his death, but we know she gets Allana off of the Dragon Queen in time and pretends she was killed, only to give her to Han and Leia for her safety. Allana now goes by Amelia and Tenel Ka is left alone on Hapes to rule without her daughter -- and without a lover and a father as well, since both were killed. :|
Fate of the Jedi series
I'll get there one day, I swear. It's been so long since I read them and I need to go back and do it but I also don't want to cause I'll just be bitter about her situation again. :(
